Late into the Spring Semester of 2015, Wynalda Packaging, a local company in Rockford, MI, invited KCAD students to participate in a design competition. Leading the industry in the production of Limited Edition packaging for hollywood blockbusters, Wynalda pitched students their two largest ongoing projects: Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones. The criteria involved presenting a digitally-represented concept, and then physically producing a prototype. The chosen winner would have their work presented - and receive a “golden-ticket” internship opportunity.
At the end of the semester, students presented their work to a room of Wynalda creatives and colleagues. I had chosen to pursue Game of Thrones, and utilized a growing knowledge of 3D modeling and printing techniques to demonstrate my concept. It was met with great reception; so much so that I won the competition, and was offered an internship the following semester.
